Unix Administrator

 

TargetRx, Inc. is a pharmaceutical marketing information services company that provides sales and marketing management with actionable information to support decision-making. Located in Horsham, PA, TargetRx offers pharmaceutical and biotechnology clients a wide array of innovative products that drive marketing and sales force strategy.

Currently, we are seeking a Unix Administrator who will work closely with other members of the Technology Operations team to manage TargetRx�s production infrastructure, and support the Data Architecture team in a Junior DBA role. Typical duties may include install and configure servers, network, and storage hardware; perform operating system and Oracle patches and upgrades; monitor performance and capacity; manage backups and offsite tape rotation; respond to trouble tickets and automated alerts; manage support cases with vendors; write scripts to automate processes; perform server and application DBA administration, and document configurations and procedures. The ideal candidate will have a self-motivated, get-it-done attitude; the ability to think critically; a desire for continuous learning; and the discipline to pay attention to deadlines, details and quality. Good communication and interpersonal skills are crucial for this team-oriented, cross-functional position.

Position Requirements:

  • Two or more years of Linux administration experience
  • Fundamental understanding of Unix commands and utilities, and basic concepts such as background processes, piping, and redirection
  • Familiarity with basic Unix administration tools and processes; for example, can boot/shutdown a system, mount file systems, add user accounts, and schedule jobs
  • Familiarity with Oracle database systems on Linux
  • General understanding of networking concepts, including routing, switching, firewalls, and IP addressing
  • General understanding of network protocols such as SMTP, DNS, SSH, and NFS
  • Experience building open source software
  • Ability to write and maintain scripts in shell and perl
  • Ability to participate in a 24x7 on call rotation
  • Ability to assist in Windows desktop and server administration tasks
  • Ability to lift at least 40 lbs
  • Strong problem solving and technical troubleshooting skills
  • Strong communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills

  • VMware ESXi hypervisor
  • Network Appliance Filers
  • Cisco routers, switches, and VPN appliances
  • F5 BigIP load balancers
  • CommVault Galaxy backup software
  • Brocade fiber switches
  • Oracle 10g and up
  • Oracle DirectNFS
  • TOAD and Oracle Enterprise Manager
  • SQL and PL/SQL programming
  • Microsoft products including: Windows Server 2003 and 2008, Active Directory, Exchange 2003, Office suite
  • Exposure to MS SQL Server desired but not required
